How NOT to Make Money with Google Adsense

April 14, 2006

If you’re like me and have been scouring the internet for a sure fire way of making some extra income from your content rich website then you have no doubt come across and have probably joined the Google Adsense program and placed Google ads on your website, and have also had the frustration of not getting enough visitors to your site and again have been scouring the internet for information on combining Google Adsense and Google Adwords to get targeted visitors to your site.

You no doubt like me have come across the so called “Get Rich Quick With Google Adsense” e-books, which offer a sure fire system to use the Google Adwords feature to unlock those Google Adsense riches on your website and have probably handed over the $30 to $60 to find out the secret system. Well this article has been written to expose the myths behind these so called systems and to warn people that the results will be very disappointing.

Google Adsense Fact

The major problem with these systems is they try to blind you with a massive list of high paying keywords which Google Adword bidders supposedly pay for certain keywords and your focus is to try and concentrate your efforts on including these keywords on your website page, so the Google Adsense can put these high paying Google ads on your site, therefore increase your click through payments.

Fact is Google ads rarely payout over $2 per click for Google Adsense, I have run sites myself with the supposed top keyword "yahoo domains” and the most I earned was about 50 cents per click which seems to be the Google Adsense average.

All this high paying keyword information is not going to make the so called $50 per click that some of these e-books claim, the best paying keyword out there at the moment is to do with “asbestos cancer” and this will only give you between $3 and $5 per click and is such a niche keyword, that not everyone is interested in reading about the subject or going to click on the Google ads on your website.

Google Adwords Fact

The Google Adwords part of the systems require you to find a high paying niche keyword, get over 200 related keywords list, create a one page website with a single article leeched from one of the free article sites surrounded by three Google ad blocks, then effectively write a Google ad with the chosen keywords as the title (via a special Google tag) and set a campaign budget of $10 a day with a maximum of 7 cents per click bid.

Fact is setting a bid of 7 cents per click will place your ad that low on the search engine that you will only get a small amount of page impressions therefore decreasing the chance of anyone clicking on your Google ad and registering a possible visitor, plus most keywords will not successfully activate Google Ads at such a low bid price.

Conclusion

Though these e-books seem to offer a system, I would have to say it is not an air-tight sure fire way of making a decent income from Google Adsense, there are just too many flaws which cannot be explained away.

My advice would be to stick to building your webpage content daily with no more than two or three Google Ads on each page, in 12 months all the search engines will have no doubt crawled and indexed your web pages hopefully bringing in a steady stream of targeted visitors who will hopefully click your Google Ads and make you a small fortune. GOOD LUCK!!

Pay per Click Advertising

April 14, 2006

Pay-per-click advertising is also called keyword auctioning. It remains one of the quickest and most effective ways to promote your business online. But you need to have in mind few things before starting a pay-per-click marketing strategy. This article aims at giving you broader perspectives about the business matter of pay per click advertising and how to take your profit from it.

Pay per click advertising means getting a profit from every click on your ad that a person makes. The difficulty comes when you try to convert the click throughs to sales. Usually, the amounts per clicks are small, for example at the scale of 5 cents. It is possible to promote a 5-cent-per-click advertising strategy. A customer can easily be hooked to pay 5 cents for a click. The major pay per click advertising programs are offered by Google and Yahoo. Google uses a program called AdWords. It can deliver clicks from any site via Google search engines and other partner sites. Yahoo relies on Overture which has a substantial selection of pay per click advertising programs. They have the best quality traffic for almost all online marketing campaigns. Of course, if you intend to go on PPC advertising, it is also recommendable to have a high organic search engine rankings, although they may not be efficient to the full. You will need great support from a SEO company for the improvement of your search results.

Remember that PPC ads can be enlivened in a matter of minutes. Pay per click advertising is fast and depends on the carefully selected keywords for your ad and also on the sum you paid to get the top placements. Programs such as AdWords by Google can improve the accessibility of your ad to the general public by improving the text on your ad. It is important that the ad be as outspoken as possible, and you predict all the basic keywords that a person may use to reach your site. Another point is the sum you are determined to spend for your pay-per-click advertising campaign. If you spend a lot of money, you will get higher in the search results of different engines, so that people can find your ads more often. AdWords and other systems can generate your traffic within a few minutes of opening an account. That makes pay-per-click results come really fast.

Another point you need to remember is the link that connects your pay-per-click ads. Make sure that your website can support all the incoming traffic. Make sure you offer all the things that people have been bargained for. Your site should look professional. It must have the capacity to make the sale. Pay attention to the minor details such as spelling mistakes, broken images or dead links. Your customers can easily be repulsed if they have to click on several links before they reach the desired product or service. Your site must be easy to understand. The ads must be linked directly to the site or category which they advertise, otherwise your publicity rating among potential customers will drastically go down. A customer won’t be happy to click several times before she or he gets the product. Remember, they pay for every click. Make it easy to navigate.

Pay per click advertising can bring you a lot of customer traffic and future profits, if you comply with the above mentioned tips. It is a great way to get visitors if you need to generate large traffic.

The Pros And Cons In Using AdWords To Boost Your AdSense Revenue

April 14, 2006

For many webmasters, Google AdSense has become a great revenue generator. Since the program pays the webmaster every time a visitor of their website clicks on the ads that Google displays in their web pages, the same has become a truly viable and profitable option to earn a living online. As a matter of fact, there are countless webmasters who have dropped their day jobs so that they could focus on the AdSense program. They build dozens and dozens of websites, all of which carry their AdSense code, hoping to generate amazing earnings from such an approach. After all, if one website can generate $25 per month (a low average at that), how much could 100 websites be able to produce for the webmaster?

But success with the Google AdSense program is contingent on three things:

1. Cost Per Click (CPC) attached to the ads that will be displayed;

2. Page impressions, or the number of people who will get to visit the website; and

3. Click Through Rate (CTR), or the ratio of people who will click on the ads vis a vis page impressions.

The CPC can be approximated by checking out the going rate of the keyword to be targeted before building a website. The resource that can be found at www.adsensearena.com is an excellent tool to help anyone in determining the possible CPC for certain search words or phrases.

The CTR can be improved by arranging the AdSense blocks in a manner that would make them look like organic parts of the website.

But page impressions would be a little more difficult to achieve.

Page impressions are actually equivalent to what is generally known as web traffic. Web traffic, of course, refers to the volume of users who manages to load up a particular page of your website. It has been said that traffic is the lifeblood of any online venture, and this couldn’t be truer for websites that earn via Pay Per Click (PPC) programs.

In a nutshell, the success of your Google AdSense campaign would depend on the volume of traffic you’ll be able to generate for your website, or websites.

You could try a lot of marketing tactics, but often, these strategies take time to gestate. Additionally, each and every competitor of yours would be trying out the same techniques, and there is no real guarantee about how much traffic you could derive from them.

This has led many webmasters to try out PPC advertising for their PPC earning campaigns. The way it goes is that they will advertise their websites through Google AdWords. Google will then display their links the way it displays AdSense ads. The webmasters who decide to take this route would then have to pay Google every time a user clicks on the ads that lead to their websites.

How do these webmasters earn, when they’re supposed to spend for every click?

Well, most of them build websites that are exclusively made up of AdSense ads. Hence, whenever a user is led to their pages, he’d have no choice but to click on the relevant ads that appear therein.

There are some webmasters, on the other hand, who rely on the strength of their content. They use AdWords to expose their websites to people, hoping that those very users would love what they’ll see and they’ll keep coming back every now and then.

There are pros and cons to this strategy, however. Let’s take a look at the advantages first.

* You will attain guaranteed traffic.

* You will attain highly targeted traffic. Since your visitors will be composed of people who are interested with the subject of you website, there is a higher likelihood that they will click on the ads that would appear on your pages.

* You will only have to pay for the traffic that your website would receive. Nothing more, nothing less.

But it’s not rosy for this approach. Here are the disadvantages.

* You’d have to spend.

* There is no guarantee that you’ll be able to recoup your financial investments.

* Google is cracking down on websites that are merely composed of AdSense ad blocks. If you opt to use this approach, and your website is composed exclusively of AdSense ads, chances are, your website would get de-indexed and your AdSense account would get suspended if Google catches you.

The best way to go is to rely on the strength of your website. Prepare unique, premium content and hook your visitors with the same. Content is king in the World Wide Web, after all.

If you decide to use AdWords to get some traffic, make sure you have a mailing list in place to capture their contact details and ensure for yourself some repeat visitors. PPC advertising should only be used to gain initial traffic, until your other marketing strategies would finally produce the desired results.

Adsense Placement is the Key to Success Online

April 14, 2006

Why have you built your web site is it to create a passive or multiple income stream some of us even pursue this as a career and one of the biggest mistakes take I have seen from webmasters is to join the Google Adsense plan and place the script code on every page of their web sites.

Don't get me wrong Google Adsense is good but in the right place it is even better.

Now you have to stop and think as to why you have built a website in the first place, are you selling a product of your own or are you marketing affiliate programs!

The idea is to think about what you want your site to do and generally it is not to send your visitors elsewhere.

MARKETING A Product of Your Own

If this is the case you are selling a product on your web sites why have you created an adsense campaign to send your hard earned visitors to someone else's web site at a profit to you of maybe 0.01 cents.

This is probably the most common mistake made, and really is the easiest to correct.

Things to consider

  • What is the sale of your product worth to you?
  • What do your affiliates pay you for a sale on their site (usually more than the cents you are currently getting)
  • Are you happy with sending visitors away from you site for a profit of 0.01 cent.( some affilate programs offer you per click at 0.05 cents)
  • However, having said all of this there is a place for Google adsense but it is not on your product page of your website.Blog?

Have you considered creating your own blog board and starting a marketing campaign from there. Firstly your blog board will be listed into the search engines much faster than your web site. You can market specific keywords with your blog while advertising your affiliates and building back links to your site.

This is all good for your site rankings and it does not hurt your product page.

    Affiliate Programs

If you are just marketing affiliate programs and are looking for turnover only, then Google Adsense is a good way to do this. However some research is required to discover what the best paying adsense campaigns are, again it is a lot of work for 0.01 cent a click. There are some good paying adsense campaigns you can use. In saying this you need to optimize each of your pages to target these specific keywords.

Try to keep your Adsense code just below the header of your Page and stay with the colors of your website so the banner becomes part of your site and does not look out of place.

These are just some of the things that I have experimented with and are currently using on the web sites that I market. Hopefully this little bit of insight helps you to understand intermarketing and the use of google adsense a little better.

Google Adsense – (CPC) How to make $$$$$

    April 14, 2006

Google Adsense was started in the middle of 2003. In the beginning google adsense accepted only websites which had more than 20 million page impressions monthly, but later it began accepting even new website with nil or some impressions. Google provides 468×60, 728×90, 120×600 and 300×250 banner ads.

Google adsense site is very easy to browse and you can get reports easily. You can choose the color combinations of the ads which suites your websites. The report displays the impressions, clicks and amount made daily. You can use the google adsense code in your websites and blogs, but your site and blog, should follow the adsense guidelines.

The code can be easily incorporated in any webpage and it takes 5-15 minutes only for your webpage to show up the advertisements. The advertisement shown in the webpage is relevant to the webpage content.

    The Price:

Google does not provide the cost per click to commission to the publishers; the cost per click would be anything between 5 cents to $20 a click. The statistics page in the google adsense site provides information on the number of impressions, clicks and payout. No doubt, this is the best paying CPC program in the world.

There are more than 100,000 google adsense advertisers and it is increasing day by day. There are lots of publishers who have been making good money with google adsense and websites which has lots of content should always try google adsense in their website. Google has started referral system wherein a person having a google adsense account can put a banner and if a person clicks and joins google adsense and after the publisher earns his first $100 (within 90 days), the referrer would be paid $100 for the referral.

Get More Out of Adsense – Tips to Improve Contextual Targeting on your Site

    April 14, 2006

As an Adsense publisher, I am often annoyed to find my web pages filled with public service announcements (PSA) and ads unrelated to the content of my site. Fewer relevant ads means fewer click-throughs and ultimately lower Adsense revenues. However advanced Google’s contextual ad serving algorithm may be, it is still a computer program (as opposed to a human being) trying to figure out what a web page is about.

Below are some tips to help you optimize your pages to make them more Adsense-friendly. Note that these tips deal with ad delivery rather than ad formatting or placement. While ad formatting and placement may affect ad click-through rates, they have nothing to do with the delivery of relevant ads to your site. Your site must display relevant ads before they have any chance of being clicked on.

    1. Avoid too much content on a page

If Adsense does not understand what is your page is about, it cannot deliver ads targeted to its content. Although a human being can easily tell what a web page is about by taking a glance at it, computer algorithms are no so intelligent. If your page contains too much content, chances are that it also contains too many seemingly unrelated keywords. Adsense becomes confused and displays PSAs or ads unrelated to the topic of your page. Try dividing the page into smaller ones, each focusing on just a few related keywords.

    2. Avoid too little content on a page

If your page contains lots of graphics and very little text, Adsense may have a hard time figuring out what it is about. This is especially true when the bulk of your content is derived from graphics and scripts. When possible, use text rather than graphics to display website names, page titles, and headline texts. Make certain to include your keywords in the title of your page and repeat them throughout the page. Avoid hiding your text through sneaky tactics, such as using tiny fonts or making your text the same color as the background. This may be construed by search engines as spam.

    3. Repeat keywords that you are targeting

Keyword repetition makes it easier for Adsense to decipher what your page is about. Do this in moderation as excessive repetition may be considered spam by the search engines. Excessive repetition may also make your writing sound awkward to the human reader. Instead of repeating the same keyword more than 5 or 6 times on a page, use synonyms and related keywords. For example, instead of repeating “Adsense optimization” 20 times, you might try alternative phrases like “increase Adsense revenues” or “earn more from Adsense”.

    4. Avoid acronyms

I once wrote an article on pay-per-click advertising for one of my sites. When I uploaded the article to my site, I was surprised to find that all of the ads showing on the page were for Apple computer products and had nothing to do with pay-per-click. It later occurred to me that instead of repeating “pay-per-click” over and over in the article, I used the acronym “PPC” numerous times. As it turned out, “PPC” also stands for “PowerPC”, Apple’s line of Power Macintosh computers, which explained why I was getting all the Apple related ads. When I replaced all the “PPCs” with “pay-per-click” and “pay per click”, the problem went away.

    5. Choose keywords with commercial value

You may get public service announcements rather than paid ads if your page deals with a subject matter whose keywords no one bids on. A remedy for this is to incorporate keywords with commercial value into your manuscript. For instance, if your page is on some obscure medical condition, you might try sprinkling a few drug names into your document to make it display paid ads rather than PSAs.

How to Make Your Site Earn with Adsense

    April 14, 2006

    1. Pick a theme you want to use for getting adsense traffic

    2. Get a descriptive domain name that matches that theme such as:

www.affiliatemarketing.com – no doubt that one's gone, but you get the idea.

    3. Fill your site with content that repeatedly supports the domain name

    - 7 easy steps to affiliate marketing profits
    - affiliate marketing 101
    - affiliate marketing for the computer illiterate
    - how I started with affiliate marketing

You’ll need loads of articles – if you don't want to write them, scout around free content sites such as www.ezinearticles.com and use the articles provided by other authors. Be sure to play by the rules and include their resource box and links though.

    4. Keep focused and keep positive

it can take time (a lot) and effort (a lot)

    5. Get support

Join a forum or two and hang out with the experts, to keep you motivated and save you making unnecessary mistakes

    6. Take out an adsense ad!

Ever looked at the ads in the column to the right of Googles search pages? Many of them are pay per click ads that go directly to an adsense site. The idea being that once you are there, you'll click some ads and earn them some money.

Some of those sites are poor though and some people are so irked by them that they'll click in and out repeatedly and run them up a nice pay per click bill! So again, content is key. Using pay per click ads to drive traffic to your adsense site is fine – just make sure there is some good content on the site, not just a pile of ads.

Looking for the Power of AdSense Search

    April 14, 2006

I’ve got to admit I’ve never been too impressed with AdSense for Search. I just haven’t seen great results with it. In fact I’ve always considered it the stocking-filler of AdSense’s goodies: nice to get but nothing like as much fun as the main package.

But maybe I’ve been underestimating it. After all, the results page is a great example of AdSense optimization. You get hit with a perfectly blended, giant ad unit right above the fold (I wish they’d make that unit available for websites!), good content and a second giant unit at the bottom of the page. I’m pretty sure those pages have been delivering good CTR… once people get there.

And that’s always been the problem with Search. Very few people use it. And that’s fine. I get paid every time someone clicks on an ad. I only might get paid when someone does a search, and I’ve got no control over what they’re searching for. I’d much rather people click on my ads than search and leave without giving me any money.

But I get a lot of site targeted ads that pay by CPM. On those pages, I don’t care whether the users click ads or not. In fact, I don’t want them to click. I want them to generate lots of page views… and then I want them to search and leave.

If you’ve got a site that’s getting a lot of CPM ads then, I think it’s worth making that search option nice and prominent. You could put it in the side bar sandwiched between a list of related links and surrounded by eye-catching color. You could write in big letters next to it “Want to learn more about [the topic of your website]?” and put a good, high-paying keyword there to increase the chances that they’ll look for the sort of subjects that give good ads. And you could keep your content short to make sure that your readers aren’t saturated with information and leave your site hungry to find out more.

Of course, you’d also need to keep an eye on your ads so that you know when you’re back to earning per click so that you can put the emphasis back on your ads, and away from the Search.

Although if you find then that your new, prominent stocking filler is giving your site greater value, then I guess you can say that Christmas came early this year.

Advice On How To Increase Your Google Adsense Earnings

    April 14, 2006

In this article I give advice about ways in which you can increase the amount you earn from Google adsense. I run adsense on a number of my sites and it is proving to be a very good form of second income. Many other people are now putting the code onto their own sites which can help them to pay for hosting and domain renewal costs.

Should you run adsense on your website?

In my opinion there are many positive reasons to have these google ads on your website but there are also reasons why you may not want them on there. On the positive side you are of course likely to earn money when people click on one of the ads, this can be a useful income, however unless you have either a high traffic site or a large number of sites, you are unlikely to get rich from it.

On the negative side when people click on one of the ads it is actually taking away that visitor from your site. If you are offering a service it therefore probably is not worth signing up for adsense for that site. If the site is purely for information purposes I would say that it is worth adding the code.

How to increase your adsense earnings

There are many ways in which you can blend the adverts into your website by choosing a particular colour for the ads as an example. Placement of the ads is also quite important and there is information on the Google site which advises where to put the adverts for maximum impact.

I believe the best way to increase your earnings however is to get more traffic to the website. There are many ways of doing this:

    Google adwords

You can create an advertising campaign using google adwords. You could opt to pay near enough the minimum fee per click and this will keep the costs down. People will then visit your site and hopefully click on one of the other ads, therefore making you money.

This can work very well for certain subjects, but not so well for others. It is a matter of trial and error, I always run the adwords for around a month and then evaluate if it is worth carrying on after that point.

It is obviously important that we do not spend more on our own advertising, than we are likely to earn.

    Purchase a text link ad

This is becoming more and more popular as one way backward links are becoming ever more powerful in the eyes of the search engines. These type of links are however quite hard to come by.

By purchasing a text link advert you are likely to have an increase in web traffic from two avenues. Firstly from the advert itself and also from the page rank value of the backward link.

At articles-submission.com you are able to purchase nine of these permanent backward links for only £50, which includes a link on a page rank five page.

    Writing articles

Writing articles can also help you to obtain more visitors to your site. The people who read the article are potential visitors, you also obtain a one way backward link from the article directory which you submit the article to, and other webmasters may also include the article on their own site, thus creating another one way backward link. These backward links help to increase your overall page rank. The higher the page rank, the more traffic you should receive.

    Link exchange

Exchanging links with other websites which are hopefully in the same business sector as your own, also has value. These links are not as powerful as the one way links mentioned above but are still worth seeking.

You can e-mail or phone other webmasters to ask if they would be happy to swap links with your site.

    Build a site network

If you have the time and available funds you could also consider building a network of sites, all on the same theme. Each of the sites in the network would have a link pointing to the main site. They could also have adsense on the sites thus increasing your earnings in a two-fold manner.

I hope this article helps you in your quest to increase your adsense earnings.
