All I have to say is WOW. I haven’t seen this kind of vitriol since the last Democratic Convention, and all directed toward Chitika, a startup ad company that was supposed to be the Google killer. Their crime? Cutting people’s revenue checks after they’ve earned the money. Not a great PR move. And it looks like there are more problems with what, on the surface, looks like a great idea. I have to admit I don’t understand how anyone (including Chitika) makes any money with their revenue model.

Darren Rouse of problogger.net, who I respect immensely (and who makes a couple hundred grand a year blogging), has really flogged the heck out of Chitika. Right from the start I had trouble understanding how they were going to make any money.

Chitika Mini Malls allow you to sell specific products (merchandise) within the pages of your website or blog. The ads boast the best price for a specific product, and then allow the user to click to (supposedly) buy the product. They also include tabs for search and other functionality built right into the banner-like ad.

Publishers can choose to show ads by keyword (they pick the words), or by page context like Google (having both ads in contextual mode on your site violates Google’s terms of service).

Apparently Chitika has deals with companies like Shopping.com, Ubid and others to share in clickthroughs. Or they may just go through channeladvisor.com, a syndicator of content for the major shopping sites (which explains why they all have the same content).

From my comfortable chair I can see where the trouble begins. When someone comes to Shopping.com they’re looking for something, whether it is duck boots from L.L. Bean or a battery charger from Sears, and they’re looking for the best price, presumably so they can buy the product (it’s not called just looking around.com. It’s shopping.com.

So Bean or Sears doesn’t mind paying Shopping.com fifteen cents or a quarter or whatever to get the person to press the buy button, because they know the person is ready to put down the credit card number.

I’m not sure moving that model out to my web site is going to pay off in a pay-per-click model. Back when we did CASIE-award winning (5 awards actually) campaigns for John Hancock, the goal was to capture someone having a specific life event such as having a baby, marriage, graduation, etc., and get them to Hancock. The presumption was that they would be ready to buy. Chances are if they saw a banner that said Ready to tie the knot? Are you covered? or some such thing and they clicked, they were ready to buy, and it would have been worth paying for the click.

Shopping.com is similar. If you’re there, the life event is a new TV (not quite as profound as marriage, but important just the same).

I’m not sure how much a click on the Best price for a TV MiniMall ad by someone who is not ready to buy a TV is actually worth. Remember, they haven’t come to Shopping.com. Shopping.com has come to them.

Keeping that in mind (the value of a click from my site vs. the value of a click from the Shopping.com site), all of the controversy makes perfect sense.

Let’s start with the auditing fiasco. They told a bunch of publishers how much oney they made from people clicking on the ads, then decided to take back some of it. They claimed to be taking back money from clicks from countries where the products couldn’t be shipped and accounting for click fraud. While this is annoying, I can understand it, though I’m not quite sure how they could examine every click and figure this stuff out, especially when rumor has it the system isn’t exactly a technological powerhouse. In fact, according to Shoemoney.com, the technology is a PHP ripoff.

So they threw out a few clicks, right. Big deal. But here’s where Chitika crossed the Rubicon as far as I’m concerned — they decided that they were going to filter out what they called curiosity clicks, which they loosely defined as clicks that are not likely to result in a sale.

Wait a minute here…no one said anything about sales. As I mention in my previous article about Pay-per-click advertising, the publishers responsibility in the pay-per-click model is to get the user to click. The rest of the chain is then out of the publisher’s hands.

Chitika has basically created its own model here, and I call it Pay-per-selected-click. They are, in effect, deciding that some clicks are more valuable than others. Specifically they are saying that clicks resulting in sales are better than clicks not resulting in sales. Viola! They have invented Pay-per-Sale (or Pay-per-Action for those semanticists in the audience).

Other people call it bullshit. Actually so do I. I think it is dishonest to tell publishers that you will pay them for every click and then decide which clicks to pay for. That’s like telling the lottery agent that you’ll buy the tickets now for $1 each, but you’re coming back after the drawing to return the ones that didn’t win for your dollar back.

Put another way, if you’re giving away 70% of what you earn (60% to the publisher and 10% to his referring publishers), you can’t be throwing around dollar bills. And if your model is stupid (which this one clearly is), you need to pull some hocus-pocus man-behind-the-curtain give-with-one-hand-and-take-away-with-the-other kind of magic.

The most amusing part of this has to be picturing the look on the marketing weenie’s faces at L.L. Bean and Sears when the bill for a million clicks comes in and they find that they made four sales.

The bottom line here is that in this context (selling someone merchandise) a click from Shopping.com has more value than a click from Bobsblog.com.

Chitika turned me down for an account. They said that I didn’t meet the qualifications. Darren Rouse says that web sites that are product centered. Chitika says the same thing.

This proves my point even more. If a website is product centered (in other words reviews computers or exhalts the virtues of a Palm Pilot), then the fact that you are on that site means you have some interest in the product. Your Chitika MiniMall is the Buy It Now for that product. This means that there won’t be as many curiosity clicks, and Chitika won’t take as much of your earnings back.

You are getting subjected to Pay-Per-Action criteria with Pay-Per-Click rewards. If you want to see how publishers are reacting to this, you might want to Google Chitika sucks, or look up one of the anti-Chitika web sites like Shitika.com. Jensense also has a nice synopsis you might want to take a look at.

Without looking I’m going to guess that the angry people are the ones furthest from Shopping.com in content and model, and the ones who had the least taken off their earnings are more product centered (whatever the hell that means).

Chitika claims to be The Leader in Impulse Merchandising. Their model puts a different spin on the word context. For their ads to work, you have to be predisposed toward purchasing the product on one of their banners, and the theme of the site on which the ad appears is the actual context of the ad, not the keywords you supply or context Chitika uses to choose the banner.

I’d replace Chitika with a Pay-Per-Action ad that fits the theme of your site. If you’re lazy stick with them, at least until they either change the model so they make more money or go out of business. At this point I’m not sure which one to bet on.

I recently delivered a talk to a small group of budding entrepreneurs. The subject was becoming an online business owner. I worked closely with 5 individuals who were looking to make a living from the Internet. They all had varying interests and varying levels of technological experience. The only thing they had in common was a passion to live a better life.

During our small group discussion I hit on several points. However no one single point was stressed more than keywords and search engine ranking. Before you close out on this article give me a few minutes to explain how I am going to shed some light on this topic- light that will help you deliver hot, targeted traffic to your business for free.

This is not generic information. It is not designed to aggravate you or frustrate you. This article is designed to inspire you to think differently about keywords and search engine rankings. Let's start with some basics and move forward from there.

There are two kinds of keywords- the kind that people search for and the kind that people do not search for. A keyword can be defined as a word or phrase that someone would enter in to a search box at Google or Yahoo. It is the search term or query. This keyword is very important for you to know as an online business owner.

You must know this search term for two reasons. 1) You must have a page that is dedicated to that search term. Choosing search terms is rather easy. Just ask yourself what word or term you would use to find your product or service. 2) You must know if it is possible for you to rank well at search engines for that keyword or search term. Determining if you can rank well is very difficult. After all, no one knows the exact algorithms Google, Yahoo, MSN or any other search engine uses to rank websites.

Let's throw in some examples. I have a website dedicated to strength training for women. I can safely assume that "fitness" is a word that people use as their keyword or query at Google. So I have now picked my keyword. Simple enough. However, I need to rank well for that search term. Otherwise what is the point? If no one is going to see my page on fitness then why create a page using the keyword "fitness"?

I can check out my competition by doing a quick search at the major search engines. If I type the word "fitness" (without the quotes) into the Google search box, it returns 799,000,000 search results. Gulp. How can I ever compete for a position in the first 3 pages of Google? The chances of me ranking well for the keyword "fitness" are very, very slim.

The fact of the matter is that most generic terms are going to be difficult to rank well for. You need to narrow your search terms down. You need to get nichier with your terms. You can spend most of your day picking search terms and then checking the competition numbers. This eats a lot of your valuable time. I built my online business by using a hosting company that completely eliminates this tedious process of keyword and search engine ranking data mining.

I simply enter in my site concept and within 20 minutes I have an entire list of related keywords and how much competition there is. Perhaps the biggest plus to having this type of data is that I am now free to build my online business and rank very well for excellent search terms that I would have never thought of. I have an instant blue print of my website and all of its related content.

If you do not have excellent search terms that you can rank well for, you are doomed from the start. No one will ever find your site at the search engines if you do not rank well. That means the only people visiting your site will be friends, family, co-workers and those whom you had to reach by paying additional money for advertising. It's much better to rank well for excellent keywords. This gives you a never-ending stream of hot, targeted leads for free.

My best advice to anyone looking to start a profitable online business is to use the absolute best tools. It makes no sense to spend hours and hours picking search terms and doing half-hearted research. In the end you will lose out on a lot of money and a lot of time. Pick your hosting company wisely and be sure you get the added benefit of the keyword selector and competition analyzer tool as an added bonus for free.

Adsense is the best income generating program ever spawned! Why?

There is no product or service to promote. Only your domain. Webspace, an Adsense account, and highly targeted traffic is needed. Your success with adsense, you will soon learn, is as easy as driving s car or cooking a four course meal. The reality is Adsense Success and everything else has to be learned. When you learned how to drive a car it became simple and after a couple of months of driving everyday or so. It became second nature. Once you learn the Adsense formula and it's variables. The sky's the limit with Google Adsense

Learn The Adsense Craft.

You can't cheat your way to success or for some a healthy adsense income. Just like anything other skill in life, it has to be learned. Everything that everyone knows was learned from a teacher(I.E. Anyone), a book, an article(I.E. Newspapers, Magazines, and the Internet), or by word of mouth. You have to learn the adsense formula and all the adsense variables. I have a A.A.S in Computer Programming and Engineering. So believe me I know how to give low-level instructions. No one can tell YOU how to make YOUR site a success, only guide you in the right direction.

The Adsense Variables

TT(High CTR) + Content = Adsense Earnings

Content – try to have a 1000 words of keyphrase-rich content. High CTR – highly optimized placement of the adsense code. TT – Highly Targeted Traffic

Yes that's it. The "Adsense Formula" is just a basic math problem and as we all know any on can learn math. We're not near finished. These variables the make up the Adsense Formula is the key to your success. Why refer to them as variables, because these Adsense elements constantly change and YOU are in full control of them. Imagine a indoor plant and its variables. Sunlight, Soil PH, CO2, Fertilizer, and Water. You control every variable and if each one is highly optimized then you will have a healthy fast-growing plant. If you highly optimize each adsense variable then you will in turn receive a healthy fast growing adsense income. Now that we have an understanding let's evaluate this "Adsense Formula."

Adsense Content

Keywords are a bad idea! High paying or not. In fact don't choose high paying keywords, not because of the saturation of SEO experts, but because keywords are to broad. Adwords is ying and Adsense is yang. Broad keywords have low payouts and ctr. You want to target keyphrases, so your site only displays high paying adsense ads, not .15 adsense ads from some beginner with one of your terms in their adwords campaign. There is a lot of free content online, but it is best to use unique content for search engine purposes. To accomplish this hire a writer or choose niche subjects that you are familiar with, so that you can write your own articles and e-books. Don't base your site on money rather than your passion. Example. My passion is computers and networking.

Adsense CTR

Optimal adsense ad placement is the heart of high adsense ctr. There are four locations on a webpage the receives the most clicks.

1. Just above the fold. The fold is the end of the section of the page you can view without scrolling.

2. All along side the left column.

3. In your content, if very interesting and informative.

4. At the end of your content after a reader finishes.

Adsense ad format effects ctr greatly whether or not they are placed in the right spots. Squares receive the most clicks, beginning with the largest and so on. The ads should blend with your page. Only the link title should be a different color than the text and url. No borders unless red or yellow. They attract viewer's eyes.

The link color should match your site's links, but blue and red work the best. Incredibly Increase your adsense ctr up to 400% by placing related images above or to the left of adsense ads.

Highly Targeted Traffic

Yes, there is a difference between targeted traffic and highly targeted traffic. Someone looking for an online business would be targeted traffic to this article, but someone looking for an adsense business would be a highly targeted visitor. Why high quality traffic? Your Ctr will be amazing and unbelievable because all of your traffic will be looking for YOUR site. Don't be surprised if you have certain days where 97% of your visitors clicked an adsense ad. How? Blogs, Articles, E-books, Rss Feeds, and most SERP(search engine results page) traffic. Never use traffic exchanges or links from other sites unless their content is similar to yours.

In my experience TrafficSwarm is the only echange that will get you clicks without getting your adsense account terminated.

Pay-per-click advertising has emerged into a highly effective marketing tool, but it has also developed a darker side. Seeking a competitive advantage, some advertisers have repeatedly clicked on a rival's link in an attempt to drain their marketing budgets. Other rogue Web sites belonging to the ad networks maliciously click on commercial links to generate more commissions for themselves.

The estimates on the amount of so-called click fraud vary widely. Critics of the pay per click system say 10 to 20 percent of the clicks are bogus — done by a person or automated program with no intention of buying something. Others say incidents of fraud are vastly overblown.

Many people with an online business spend large amounts of money on pay per click advertising only to discover that many of the people clicking on their ads weren't really interested in their products or services.

Bogus "visitors" to a pay per click ad represent click fraud. This is a serious scam that threatens the viability of the pay per click advertising business which has become enormously profitable for all of the major search engine operators, namely Google, Yahoo/Overture, and MSN.

Click fraud has different twists, but the end result is generally the same. Advertisers are billed for fruitless traffic generated by someone who repeatedly clicks on an advertiser's ad without any intention of ever buying anything.

The search engine advertising market is currently several billion dollars per year (and growing rapidly) and estimates vary widely on how much click fraud is actually going on. Clearly, the search engine operators would like to downplay the extent of this problem. Some industry experts claim that a little click fraud exists, but that it is overblown by advertiser paranoia.

According to third party data compiled by eMarketer, the Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization (SEMPO) found that “the percentage of advertisers who say that click fraud, the artificial inflation of click through numbers, is a growing problem tripled in 2005, to 16%. Elsewhere, a survey by IntelliSurvey Inc. and Radar Research reports that, among respondents surveyed, 46% of all advertisers with 500 or more employees have been a victim of click fraud.”

Virtually everyone involved with pay per click advertising sees click fraud and knows it's there, but no one is quite sure what to do about it.

Both Google and Yahoo/Overture acknowledge that the click fraud problem exists, but claim improved internal controls will prevent the problem from escalating. Their stated position seems to be that they are concerned about click fraud, but that it is not a material issue so far. Both of them are touting their increasing internal actions aimed at detecting and combating click fraud.

Such reassurances from search engine companies certainly aren't surprising, given how much they stand to lose if advertisers cut back on advertising spending. The stakes are huge and the search engine companies are actively involved in public relations campaigns. Industry research firm eMarketer expects $7.4 billion to be spent on search engine advertising by 2008, up from only $108.5 million back in 2000.

It is interesting to note that Google has recently agreed to pay the equivialent of $90 million to settle a click fraud suit.

The incentives for click fraud have increased along with the money devoted to search engine advertising. Advertising on search engines has turned into a fast-spreading craze as more and more marketers have realized substantially higher returns on search engine ads than on more traditional marketing campaigns conducted through print media.

Most pay per click advertisers set a spending limit and once the spending limit is reached, the ads cease to appear in the search results. Click fraud is a very unethical competitive tactic where someone repeatedly clicks on a competitor's ad until the spending limit is reached and the ad then disappears from the search results.

The success of search engine advertising has substantially raised prices that advertisers pay for top spots. Unfortunately, these higher prices have turned click fraud into a dark little industry of its own. Some crooks have hired cheap overseas contractors to just sit in front of computers and constantly click on targeted ads and others are developing sophisticated software to help automate and conceal click fraud.

If you use pay per click advertising it would be wise to carefully monitor your traffic to determine if you are the victim of click fraud. In any event, it's probably safe to say that pay per click advertisers are going to have to accept a certain level of click fraud as just a cost of doing business.

Are you using Google Adwords to promote your product or service? Are you getting the results you want? You'll only know this information if you are tracking the conversion rates of the click-through you are paying for. Then, depending on what you learn about the conversions, you may need to refine your campaign.

A conversion rate is defined as the percentage of people who actually purchase your product or service compared to the number of people who came to your website by clicking on your Adwords ad. This number is the conversation percentage and the higher the percentage, the more effective your ad campaign. If you have extremely low numbers, you need to do something to increase those numbers such as refine your ads or choose better keywords or websites for displaying the ads.

Google provides inside the Adwords application a tool for tracking conversions for each campaign and each ad you run. This allows you to learn what your rates are and see which ads are doing their job well. If one ad or a whole campaign isn't doing well, then you can look for patterns that can clue you in about how to change and make the campaign more effective.

Adwords conversions are driven by many factors. It is not sufficient of your ad to get the user to click through to your website, although that is the first step. The ultimate goal is to make a sale or create a valid lead that will bring in a future sale. Whether you goal is to get the visitor to sign up for a newsletter or to purchase a product or service, if that visitor fails to do what you wish, then you have not converted that visitor. How many convert once they see your website is controlled by you. How attractive is your website? Is it truly compelling, making the visitor believe they simply can't live without the product or service your offer? Is the website easy to navigate or is it not very user friendly? Are your sales claims believable or do they seem to be unrealistic? Do you have data to support your claims? These are all factors that are within your power to control.

Even the greatest Google Adwords campaign won't generate conversions into sales or sign-ups if the website the visitor sees is ugly, hard to use or doesn't offer what the advertisement stated. One example seen all too often is the Google ad that indicates "free" but the visitor find that they actually have to pay. Be sure that your website offers exactly what your Google Adwords campaign promises. If you tell the visitor they will find something for "free" then it must be there and it must be free of charge.

If you are running a Google Adwords campaign, you may want to run the ad diagnostics reporting tool. One of the reasons you may want to use this tool is if you have ads that are not showing up online and you don't know the reason why they are not appearing.

In any Adwords campaign, Google has to approve your ad before it can be presented online. This means that your ad has to meet the criteria laid out in terms and conditions and in the other documents Google provides that state their editorial and ad content policies.

The destination website also has to meet the criteria in terms and conditions or the ad will be rejected.

When you access the ad diagnostics tool, it looks at data that is specific to each query and all the related ads based on the account data at that particular time. However, it is important to realize that no data provided in the reporting tools of Google is truly real-time. There is about a three hour or more delay, so very recent changes will not be reflected in the reporting.

There are many things within your Adwords account that can impact the display of your ad. The diagnostics tools will take these into account. Included are advertisement and keyword approval status, the cost per click and your advertising budget settings, the keyword performance, audience targeting settings and ranking status.

One reason the diagnostic tools might return is that your advertising budget is too low to allow your ad to be delivered frequently. This can, of course, be easily changed by increasing your advertising budget settings and paying more per click. Since ads are delivered with those paying the most per click being given priority, the more you are willing to pay for each click, the more often your ad will be delivered to an audience.

There is also a wizard for debugging why an ad can't be seen. This allows you to learn if something is wrong with the ad you submitted which prevents its being delivered or seen by an audience.

By using the Adwords diagnostic tool, you can refine your Adwords campaign, getting the most for your advertising budget. It is not necessary to go blindly through an Adwords campaign. Google provides all the tools needed to make your ad campaign the most successful. You simply have to access and use those tools to optimize your campaign.

A top-earning AdSense website will have a number of different elements: it will have high quality content filled with valuable keywords; it will have the right ad units in the right place well blended into the page; and it will have a steady stream of traffic flowing in from various sources to click the ads that the feed the funds.

Gathering that traffic can be hard work. You can take the easy route and simply pay for ads on AdWords. That works fine as long as you’re paying less per click than your ads receive per click. Swapping links will certainly be a part of your traffic acquisition strategy, as will search engine optimization. But all that takes effort… so you want to make the most of it.

You’ve probably heard that old business maxim about new clients costing ten times more to pick up than holding on to old ones.

The principle is exactly the same for websites.

If you’ve attracted a user to your site, you want to make sure he comes back. If he didn’t click on ad during his last visit, he might click next time. And if he did click on an ad during his last visit, then that’s definitely the sort of user you want returning.

Satisfying your users with valuable content will help, but even the most satisfied user can still forget to check your site regularly. That’s why a newsletter is such an important tool.

You should always be trying to capture your users’ email addresses. You’ll be able to remind them that you’re out there, tell them that you have good information and suggest that they come back to your site. You can’t put ads in the newsletter itself yet (although Google say that’s on the way) but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be using a newsletter.

One way to create a newsletter and use it to generate ad clicks is to fill it with original content and make sure that your URL is well displayed. If people feel that they’re getting good content from your newsletter, they’ll come to the site to find out more.

The other method is even easier. Every time you create a new blog post or write a new article simply take the first paragraph or two and paste it into your newsletter template. When the template is full, mail it off to your list. To read the rest of the article, those old users will have to visit your site.

If you’re not sending a newsletter to your users, then not only will you be unprepared when Google wheels out ads in newsletters, you’re also missing a valuable traffic opportunity now.

I recently read a Christian Science Monitor article called "Google's Hidden Payroll" which looks at the economic incentive for tech-savvy third world entrepreneurs to get into publishing extensive web content and enter the Google Adsense or Yahoo Publisher Network (YPN) game. What should be obvious is that clicks on Adsense ads will be worth far more to site publishers in low-wage countries than they are to someone in high rent, high wage cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles, Manhattan or Chicago.

http://snipurl.com/Made_for_adsense (CS Monitor Article)

That article made it appear that the entire Adsense program was a huge underground economy, when in fact that program made it truly viable for legitimate publishers of niche content to do very well for themselves for the first time. Those legitimate publishers had previously earned money through participation in affiliate programs selling products and services related to their site topics – but found that Adsense brought in far more consistent income than affiliate programs.

Major, high traffic sites like About.com and even metropolitan newspapers have adopted Adsense as a viable advertising vehicle on content sites. Many enthusiastic hobbyists and other content rich sites learned that their expertise filled sites could earn substantial income and give them incentive to continue writing about their passion. Things went south only when opportunists saw their chance to sell get-rich-quick-on-Adsense ebooks and software to the unitiated.

The bad news is that Google Adsense and YPN programs incent those who know how to post web content, to put up massive numbers of web pages, with maximum numbers of "ad units" per page in hundreds of thousands of web pages in the hope that visitors will find those pages and click on those Adsense or YPN ad units and earn the site publisher money for each click. The Adsense and YPN teams must somehow beef up their site review teams to filter out the abusers. Below is a WebmasterWorld discussion forum on the topic:

http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum89/13071.htm

The ad clicks earn the same money no matter what country hosts the pages they appear on. Computer literate and tech savvy programmers in Delhi or even Jalamabad for that matter, who can afford to buy a $7.95 domain name, host it at $9.95 monthly and get internet access for another $9.95 monthly can be in the made for Adsense content business for as little as $30 monthly.

If talented programmers in India have even a basic understanding of search engine ranking and can dynamically insert a bit of javascript provided by Google to thousands of pages of content, they can earn substantial additional income by third world standards. Even one third of what a US publisher might find attractive extra income becomes very attractive to an overworked and underpaid tech worker in many parts of the world.

Because the clicks on those ads earn the same money for the New York publisher as for the New Delhi publisher, the potential income to the New Delhi webmaster is worth far more in time spent to get well ranked content pages full of Adsense ads seen. They also have higher incentive for fraud – having others click on ads which appear on their sites or having friends and relatives in different locations do the same – potentially doubling or trebling income for a programmer in India.

Again from the CS Monitor story:

"Google is actively looking for those kinds of sites," and removes ads from them, explains Eric Giguère, author of "Make Money with Google: Using the AdSense Advertising Program."

Google created this scene by offering substantial incentive to post web content, often repeated web content and even garbage web content in order to display contextual ads. A new term has even been coined for web sites put up solely to display contextual ads – Made for Adsense or MFA sites. It has been discussed in some forums that Yahoo Publisher Network is filtering ads from appearing on sites outside the US.

There are now software programs available to create article sites (I won't link to them here and contribute to their popularity), which encourages webmasters to establish article submission and archiving sites. There are dozens of software packages available that make it easy to set up domains full of templated article pages that come with a database file full of tens of thousands of articles for about $100. The reason? Posting thousands of pages of articles in the hopes of attracting visitors who will click on Adsense or YPN ads.

The easy money leeches are lured out of their slime to suck the blood of passersby when something as useful as Adsense comes along. Forget that it now takes almost a year for a new content domain to rank well – even if that webmaster creates a niche site full of truly worthwhile and useful content. Forget that most existing recognized article sites display terms of use that restrict use of articles per domain to under 50 per year. Forget that these templated domains are using thousands of articles against author copyright and article archive terms of use.

Gullible and lazy webmasters buy templated and IDENTICAL site creation packages. They are lured by visions of riches, only to be disappointed with no traffic to their Made For Adsense sites full of content already posted widely across the web. Usually, the well established article archives, like EzineArticles.com and GoArticles.com will post articles first and will rank best for that content because those sites are already highly ranked and well known as article archives.

In a wildly convoluted spin of logic, a new Adsense blacklist site has been launched which purports to help Adsense site owners filter out advertising from other Made for Adsense sites from their own Adsense sites, thus somehow increasing their own income. That is difficult to comprehend, but some Adsense publishers claim it helps increase the click value of ads if they block Adwords ads from competing Made for Adsense sites from appearing on their own sites.

Judging by all the online ebooks about getting rich with Adsense, all the templated and prepackaged sites being sold to webmasters to put up domains full of identical content with Adsense, and all the buzz in the forums about made for Adsense content sites – you'd think that Google would be busy looking for ways to limit the inevitable content pollution.

The made for Adsense sites are easy to spot, they usually sport logos or hypertext links back to the software site in the form of "Powered by Article Monster" or "Plug-in-Riches" kind of links (these are not real names).

Hopefully Google and YPN will begin filtering those and any other membership or "Private Label Rights" content abusive sites to keep web content pollution levels lower in Google search engine results pages.

The success of any Internet business or e-commerce is dependent on traffic. No traffic equals no sales and profits. This is no hidden secret. Everyone wants web traffic.Website owners have spent time and money to design elaborate websites with all the bells and whistles. The bottomline is without traffic, any online business is doomed to fail.

While many web business have gone bust in the past, there are many other smaller websites generating consistent income by concentrating on certain niches and subniches. These small businesses do not come into direct competition with the big boys. Their traffic size may be nowhere in comparison with big companies, but it is targeted.

This is a reason why niche marketing is the way to go. Laser target certain groups of people and drive them to your website. Precision marketing is essential so that you could count on all the traffic on your site as prospective customers and not casual surfers.

It takes money to make money is a well known phrase in the business world both online and offline. One way of spending money for business revenue is through advertising. Advertising gives publicity to your business. With the right type of advertising, you can see the spurt of targeted traffic to your site. With a certain volume of traffic, even if only a small percentage turns out to be buying customers, it may still be viable depending on the net profit you earn from the sale of each product or service.

Google Adwords

Presently, Google Adwords is one of the major Pay Per Click advertising program on the Net. In recent times, its popularity has surged.

What is a Pay Per Click ad program?

You only pay when someone clicks on your ad link. You bid for keywords or keyphrases that you propective customers will use to search for your product. Competitive keywords will cost you mega dollars per click. Less competitive ones will cost less. The key is selecting key phrases that generate a lot of searches, and do not trigger a lot of competitive ads.

Each time a person performs a search query in Google using your selected keywords, it will trigger the search engine to display your ad. If you are the highest bidder for your selected key phrase, your ad will occupy the top spot on the first page of Google's search results page under Sponsored Links.

Pay Per Click ad program drives targeted web traffic to your website. It is the fastest way to give visibility to your business. It ensures that your targeted group of people sees your ads.

Besides Google, your ads can also be featured in Google's affiliate search networks. These includes sites like, AskJeeves, AOL Search and Netscape. There are also content networks, non-search engine sites that feature Google Adwords, which will also carry your ads. But this is subjected to the niche the site features determined by the keywords you have chosen for your ads. The frequency of your ad is determined by your set budget.

Attracting Qualified Traffic

Google Adwords ad program drives targeted web traffic to your website through the keywords or key phrases you have selected. You know that the traffic you attract through your Adwords ads are interested in your products or services. So, it gives you a more accurate traffic to buying customers ratio. The traffic to buying customers ratio or conversion rate will show how effective is your Adwords campaign.

With your Google Adwords ad, every click on your ad is a potential sale. Your keywords, ad headlines and ad text must match your landing page, which is the page that your prospective customer arrived at when they clicked your Adwords link.

Google Adwords is an effective way to attract qualified traffic to your website. If you plan your Google Adwords campaign well, your ROI (Return On Investment) will justify your ad costs.

The honest answer is you certainly could. There are those webmasters who are definitely earning thousands per month on Adsense. A misconception that newcomers to the business of building Adsense sites is that one Adsense site will bring in thousands per month. Those sites are few and far between. It can be done but it may be easier to go at it a completely different way.

Build more targeted sites instead of building one killer site that forces to you to compete with top Search Engines Optimizers. The art of building Adsense sites is that you can get them listed in the Search Engines for free if you pick the right Niche. The traffic that gets to your site from the Search Engines is free. You net revenue for these smaller niche sites will be much higher because you will not have an advertising expense. Your visitors will be highly targeted and more apt to click on your ads creating more revenue per visitor.

The niche is the selection of a particular topic with specific keywords that Adsense will pay a premium for when your visitors click on the Adsense Ads. A niche may not be the most trafficked site but it is a topic that people are definitely interested in and web master who advertise for those customers are paying a high premium to get the click. A less trafficked niche with less competition from other webmasters is easier to get top rankings in the Search Engines with a little effort.

Picking a Niche with low traffic but high payouts means you are probably not going to make thousands for that site.

For instance I have a site that generates less than 600 unique visitors per month. When a visitor clicks on an Adsense Ad on this site I get close to $5 per click. That site can make anywhere from $25 to $150 per month with very little effort. I don’t have to struggle for top search engines listings for this site because the competition is very low at this time. The people who search for this topic find my site in the Search Engines. The visitors that come to my site via Search Engines are very zeroed in on the niche. I see 1 out of 3 clicking a link because they are truly looking for my niche. Picking a lowered trafficked high paying niche generates lots of clicks on Adsense ads, few visitors but high payouts when the visitors take action,

$150 per month is not enough to quit your day job, but find 10 niches like this, update the sites a couple times per week. Multiply 10 times $150 and now you are bringing in $1150 per month. Add another 10 and you are up to $2300 per month.

You can certainly find time to find new articles and new content for 20 – 50 sites if this is your full time job.

The moral don’t go after the big fish when creating Adsense sites. Sometimes there is more money and less effort in the small Niches if you build them in Numbers.
